Upper Coomera Community Hub Gets $2.02 million Funding Boost
Round One of the $1 billion Regional Development Australia Fund (RDAF) has just been allocated for Community buildings, cultural and tourist projects, training centres and regional airport upgrades.
The Gold Coast City Council has been successful in obtaining $2.02 million federal governmnet funding for its $23.51 million Upper Coomera Community and Youth Hub
Up to $100 million was initially made available for investment-ready projects that supported the growth of local communities across the country. Over 550 applications were received and due to this strong response Round One was expanded to $150 million.
The Gold Coast City Council’s community hub for Upper Coomera is to be located on the vacant site on the corner of Abraham and Reserve Roads which was purchased by the Council in December 2008 for a community development.
The Upper Coomera Community Hub shall be an integrated facility that will form a new community hub to serve the Upper Coomera community.
So that the needs and requirements of the community are met, the UCCH shall comprise of the following components:
- library
- multi-purpose community centre
- aquatic facilities with focus on water play/social uses
- public plaza areas
- walking and cycling trails with internal and district links
- social areas including a small park area
This project is the first Gold Coast City master planned development that comprises all of the facilities mentioned above – and settling on a name is proving challenging as a new commercial centre called The Hub at the corner of Days Road and Old Coach Road, Upper Coomera has created confusion within the community.
