Coomera MP Call for New Police Station
With the population in the Coomera district swelling and development strongly underway again the shortage of police is the district is becoming a hot topic and Michael Crandon MP , State Member for Coomera has lodged a petition for the immediate allocation of 50 officers and the construction of a new police station at Ormeau.
The Gold Coast Bulletin article states :-
“Essentially, we have seen astounding growth and we have the largest or second largest number of voters in our electorate in Queensland — depending on the time of year they are counted.”
Mr Crandon said voter numbers had jumped from 28,000 in 2009 when he was voted in, to more than 40,000.
“The average number of voters per electorate in the state is 33,000, so we are 20 per cent above that average,” he said.
Unfortunately, the number of police officers had not increased at the same rate and another 50 officers could easily be accommodated at Coomera now.
“Another way of quantifying growth here is that in the past six years, seven new schools have opened in a 10km stretch of the M1 highway. Four of these are state schools and three are private,” he said.
“One of these private schools, LORDS, is already up to its fifth stage of development, while Pimpama State Secondary College will start stage three in mid-2016 and even then, they will struggle to accommodate students in 2017.”
