Coomera town centre a step closer: council

The chairman of the Gold Coast City Council’s planning committee says development of the Coomera town centre should be a step closer today.

The council is expected to endorse a partial development permit for a 54-hectare industrial estate inside the proposed town centre.

Councillor Ted Shepherd says the permit is consistent with the planning scheme.

“The town centre can’t proceed unless it’s supported by the industrial and commercial components,” he said.

“This addresses them – it places them in the strategic position [and] it allows the applicant to come back at a future date and do the detailed design and application for each site.

“It more or less sets the ground rules for what we will achieve on the site.”

The council is also expected to approve a report highlighting the need for community infrastructure in the Coomera town centre.
